There are a vast number of resources available to seniors designed to enhance their quality of life. Some may provide direct assistance while others are sources of information.

BAYCARE
Even those with a good Prescription Drug Plan will find instances when a particular drug is not covered or has a high co-pay. GoodRx can often help to reign in drug costs.
SUNSTAR PARAMEDICS
Pinellas County residents may enroll in the FirstCare Membership Savings Program from Sunstar paramedics. This program helps with ambulance copays.

THE PLEURAL MESOTHELIOMA CENTER
Pleural Mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure. The long latency period, of 20-50 years, means some 80% of mesothelioma diagnoses are to seniors. This center helps the afflicted find doctors, treatment centers & support groups, at no cost.

SHINE
Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE) is a free service offered by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. Volunteers offer one-to-one counseling services at locations throughout Florida. This important resource provides advice & guidance about Medicare, Medicaid, and health insurance.

SOCIAL SECURITY
Explore the Social Security Administration at their official website. Find and apply for retirement, Medicare benefits, and extra help for prescriptions. Establish your account at “My Social Security”.
DEPARTMENT OF ELDER AFFAIRS–STATE OF FLORIDA
Florida’s Department of Elder Affairs website offers a broad array of programs, publications, and resources available to seniors. Well worth exploring and bookmarking.
AREA AGENCY ON AGING OF PASCO – PINELLAS
County-level resources for seniors and the disabled. Local information and services range from housing, nutrition, transportation, in-home help, and more.

FLORIDA HEALTH CARE ASSOCIATION
The FHCA believes that every capable adult has a basic right of self-determination concerning choices about their own health care, including the right to choose or refuse medical treatment. This website offers a number of resources and Advanced Directive forms.
VETERANS LEGAL SERVICES INITIATIVE
The American Bar Association outlines a host of legal resources available to Veterans.
ROAD SCHOLAR
This organization combines travel with learning. Founded in 1975 as Elderhostel, it offers 5,500 learning adventures throughout the US and worldwide.
ELDERTREKS
An adventure travel company designed exclusively for people 50 and over. ElderTreks offers active, off-the-beaten-path, small-group adventures by both land and sea in over 100 countries.
AARP – AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PERSONS
The nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with over 38 million members. Their mission is to give those over 50 the information, services, and resources needed to enhance their lives.

Caring.com is a leading online destination for caregivers seeking information and support as they care for aging parents, spouses, and other loved ones.
VOLUNTEER
Looking for volunteer opportunities that match your interests and talents? Volunteer match is an online resource that catalogs organizations with volunteer needs.

This Pinellas County non-profit provides Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Programs, Senior Dining, and Transportation to elders since 1966.
SENIOR CORPS OF RETIRED EXECUTIVES – SCORE
SCORE provides an opportunity to put your work experience to good use assisting others in building their business. Be a mentor or find a mentor.
SILVER SNEAKERS
Many Medicare plans offer Silver Sneakers as a benefit. Check eligibility, locations, local and online classes here.
UHC RENEW ACTIVE
Medicare beneficiaries with AARP or United Healthcare Medicare Advantage and supplement plans enjoy Renew Active for health club membership.
NATIONAL SENIOR GAMES
This non-profit is dedicated to motivating active adults to lead a healthy lifestyle through a 20-sport, biennial competition for men and women 50 and over. This is the largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors.
Reading
National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. A service of the Library of Congress with participating libraries nationwide. This is a free Braille and talking book library service for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical disability that prevents them from reading or holding the printed page.
